Benjamin Papa is the lawyer of choice for individuals who want to resolve their legal problems, but do not want to perpetuate the destruction that often accompanies conflict. Ben believes that it is difficult enough for people to make the decision to divorce; they deserve to be represented by a lawyer who does not add to the problem, but rather contributes to the solution with his legal skills. Drawing on his background in psychology, Ben is attuned to the emotional dynamics of a case as well as the legal issues, and tailors his advice to meet each client’s distinct needs. Ben works to create an atmosphere where his clients can negotiate constructively despite their stress, become effective co-parents, and move through the divorce process with integrity.

One of the leaders in introducing collaborative divorce in Tennessee, Ben excels at utilizing that process to manage complex divorces, including high conflict or high asset cases. He often represents physicians and other professionals, including individuals working in the music business, who appreciate the privacy of collaborative divorce and are looking for a cost-effective solution. Whether it is through collaborative divorce or negotiated settlement, clients appreciate that Ben advocates for their needs, places the interests of family at the forefront, and emphasizes a non-destructive approach that encourages all parties to be their better selves.

A lifelong resident of Tennessee, Ben earned a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from Vanderbilt University, a Juris Doctor from Ohio State University, (Columbus, OH) and a Master of Divinity from Vanderbilt Divinity School. During his years in practice he has completed numerous training programs in family law, divorce mediation and collaborative divorce. The Founding President of the collaborative divorce practice group in Middle Tennessee, Ben currently serves on the Board of Directors for the Middle Tennessee Collaborative Alliance and Miriam's Promise Adoption Agency. Ben serves his clients in the areas of divorce/child custody, adoption, surrogacy, and probate, as well as family and divorce mediation. Centrally located in Brentwood, his practice extends to Nashville, Franklin, and surrounding areas.
